FLAGSTAFF - The Big Sky Conference's addition of both Southern Utah University (SUU) and Utah Tech reinforces its footprint in the Intermountain West, expanding its scale, strengthening rivalries, and deepening its recruiting and broadcast reach.

"NAU welcomes both Southern Utah University and Utah Tech University to the Big Sky Conference," said NAU President José Luis Cruz Rivera. "Their competitive ambitions and geographical location make for new and renewed rivalries – including the return of the traditional Grand Canyon Trophy game for SUU and NAU in football."

Rejoining the Big Sky Conference brings SUU back into its regional core, with increased proximity to conference rivals and offers SUU stronger visibility and postseason access.

By joining the Big Sky, Utah Tech gains entry to an established multi-sport conference with automatic postseason qualification, regional opponents, and shared media opportunities that significantly enhance their athletic profile. As a rapidly growing institution in southern Utah, the move cements their identity in Division I athletics and aligns them with peer institutions.

Both Ceder City, home of Southern Utah University and St. George, home of Utah Tech University offer Lumberjack fans the opportunity for regional travel to cheer on NAU for away games.
